Letterman's Top Ten "Benefits of Green Remodeling"
OK, so I am not exactly Letterman but since you are here you might as well read my lists.
In these days of responsible earth stewardship, rising energy costs and tightening personal budgets, eco-friendly energy efficient Green projects are more in demand than ever. A Green friendly makeover can take your awkward, cramped and outdated home and add more functional and energy efficient space for the entire family to enjoy. Have you ever asked yourself, Is my home warm and welcoming? only to realize that it is better suited to being rented out to Boeing as a wind tunnel. Well friends, I am here to tell you that life does not have to be that way.
There was a time when being eco-friendly was synonymous with high cost of living for eccentric recluses. Today, it has become a mainstream lifestyle choice, and an affordable one at that. For a relatively small investment, you can get an almost immediate payback that you continue to realize for years and with the trend toward families living in their homes longer, you can't afford NOT to do it. Jim Weaver's Top Ten Ways to Implement Eco-Friendly Methods in Your Home
1. Use non-toxic / low Volatility Organic Compound (VOC) paints and sealants
2. Install programmable thermostats
3. Invest in Energy StarTM appliances
4. Install natural flooring
5. Purchase building materials from local vendors to reduce fuel and emissions
6. Choose recycled composites for counter tops and outdoor decking
7. Select recycled material roof shingles and tiles
8. Specify energy efficient lighting
9. Insulate your hot water pipes
10. Consider alternative landscape and hardscape solutions such as pavers, water barrels decorative ponds for runoff.
